There are many military friendly colleges in Indiana. According to the VA, in 2022, 238 Indiana schools received Post 9/11 GI bill funds for over 7,900 students totaling over $50 million dollars.

There are six active programs that offer benefits for vets’ education. If eligible, all of these may be used to help fund a college education.

These 11 military friendly colleges in Indiana are listed based on the total amount of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits awarded in the 2022 / 2023 school year. All of the data cited from the National Center for Education Statistics. Many of these schools take part in the Yellow Ribbon Program, a part of the Post 9/11 GI Bill. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the schools and the VA pay the tuition and fees not paid for by the GI Bill.

Indiana University Bloomington is the first military friendly college in Indiana with over 470 students who receive GI Bill benefits. The school’s connections to the US military date back to the school’s founding in 1820. Many of IU’s first students, faculty members, and trustees had military ties, like those who served in the War of 1812.

The school has a Center for Veteran and Military Students on campus as well as a chapter of Student Veterans of America.
